Industrial Water Care

Industrial Water Care

Boiler Water Treatment

Nalco, our supplier, was built on boilers, and more than 80 years ago, they began treating boilers for railroads and industry. And that long-term commitment to developing the most innovative boiler water treatment technologies in the industry continues today. It is a result of their desire to improve your competitive advantage and decrease your total operating costs.

A single day of lost steam production can cost you much more than the cost for one or two years of our boiler treatment programs. While our program costs may not significantly impact your bottom line, we understand that our results do, and we are passionate about helping you produce reliable, safe, and cost-effective steam.

Successful boiler operation requires a total system approach to:

  • Prepare feedwater before it goes to the boiler
  • Protect and keep the internal boiler surfaces clean
  • Maximize condensate return
  • We can perform detailed system audits and diagnostics to prescribe the best chemical, equipment and service programs to maximize your boiler system performance and efficiency. Through utilizing NALCO innovative programs, we can help you achieve water and energy savings, asset preservation, and increased plant reliability and safety.

We also offer a number of Feedwater Treatment programs to help meet your needs. Feedwater is water added to the boiler to replace evaporation and blowdown. Regardless of how the feedwater is prepared, a chemical treatment is needed in order to prevent potential problems downstream.

We provide a complete offering of mechanical and chemical programs, including:

  • Hot & cold lime softening
  • Filtration
  • Ion exchange softening
  • Dealkalization

No matter how well the water entering the boiler is prepared, an Internal Treatment program is needed to keep your boiler running at its best. There are four major problems that can occur inside the boiler, including: Scale, Deposition, Corrosion and Carryover.

These issues typically are not isolated. For example, under-deposit corrosion can also occur from concentrating mechanisms beneath the scale or deposit layer. Carryover of boiler water solids into the steam may result from high levels of corrosion products in the boiler.

We offer a full complement of treatment programs to protect your boiler and keep it running efficiently. We also offer an array of supplemental programs to further enhance your system performance.

Some of our key program offerings include:

  • All Polymer
  • Phosphonate
  • Chelant
  • Residual Phosphate

Our Condensate Treatment programs can also help you save energy, water and water pretreatment costs by maximizing the amount and quality of condensate returned to the boiler as feedwater.

Condensate is condensed steam. Since condensate is very pure water with relatively high heat content, it is ideal for boiler feedwater. If the condensate is not properly treated, a number of contaminants could be introduced into the boiler and cause problems. We can help you address these issues, and we also offer a full compliment of volatile, filming and blended corrosion inhibitors.

Cooling Water Treatment

We understand that cooling water systems are an integral part of process operations in many industries, with the possibility of productivity and product quality being adversely affected by scale, corrosion, fouling and microbiological contamination.

These problems can be very costly when they cause the loss of heat transfer, equipment failure, and health and safety concerns. Nalco uses a unique engineering approach, looking at your total system from mechanical, operational and chemical angles. We can provide best in class solutions tailored to your open recirculating, once-through, closed loop, geothermal, and process cooling systems.

Corrosion and Scale Control

Nalco’s corrosion and scale inhibitors feature traced chemistries designed for use with 3D TRASAR® control systems. With 3D TRASAR technology control, your system is monitored and feedrates are controlled for optimal, cost-effective performance.

Biocontrol

We offer a complete line of oxidizing and non-oxidizing biocides, algaecides and biodispersants that are effective in many different cooling water applications, including open recirculating cooling towers, once-through cooling systems, closed loop cooling systems, air washers, cooling ponds, and pasteurizers.

NALCO ACTIBROM®, STA.BR.EX® and ControlBrom® products can effectively reduce the amount of oxidizing biocide required to control microbiological activity in cooling water. NALCO Bioreporter™ products, when used with a 3D TRASAR technology controller, detect changes in microbiological activity and adjust the biocide feedrate for tighter control and less overfeed.

For control of Macrofouling by zebra mussels and other mollusks, we offer effective molluscicide treatments that can be used in fresh and potable water systems. Your sales engineer can help choose the right treatment program for your system.

Closed Loop Cooling Applications

Nalco also offers a full line of products for closed loop cooling applications. Many products in our TRAC line are based on patented all-organic technology, avoiding molybdate and nitrite chemistries that have been subject to regulatory restrictions in some areas.

Membrane Treatment

When you need clear answers for better membrane performance, you’re ready for the Nalco Utilities & Membranes Solutions team. We work with you to help you develop the best possible membrane solutions for your water treatment system, whether it’s a reverse osmosis (RO), nano-filtration (NF) or ultra-filtration (UF) system or a membrane bioreactor.

As part of Nalco, the world’s largest water and process treatment provider, we’re supported by a company with a 75-year track record and more than 10,000 employees operating in 130 countries across six continents. That means serious science and engineering. So you can expect results and measurable return on investment.

Whether you operate a membrane system at an industrial or municipal facility, or you are involved in the design of membrane plants looking for the best possible membrane performance, the Nalco Utilities & Membranes Solutions team understands how membrane performance is critical to your project and your role.

We work with you to create comprehensive and complete plans best suited to your organisation’s needs.

Raw Water

Raw Water Clarification
Whether you are making potable water or water for your plant process, optimizing the performance of treatment chemicals and equipment can dramatically minimize costs and maximize your return on investment. We can provide creative solutions, helping you meet your most stringent water quality requirements.
Nalco water clarification programs are designed to enhance removal of TSS, color, TOC, minimize sludge volume, help with environmental compliance and improve the use of existing mechanical treatment methods with chemical precipitation.

Applications include:

  • Plants using natural water sources for drinking water, boiler makeup, cooling tower makeup and other industrial processes
  • Wastewater treatment plants-to help meet environmental standards
  • Industrial wastewater plants that discharge directly to municipal systems or directly to the environment

Wastewater Treatment
Wastewater treatment requires as much attention as other processes within your operation and demands the need for integrated solutions. If you think about it, there are not many other processes that have such variability on the input side, while a consistent, high quality output is required. Nalco offers a number of tools to efficiently analyze, evaluate, and treat your entire waste water operation from primary clarification to discharge.

We understand that effective primary waste water treatment is critical to your plant operations, whether you are discharging directly to a municipal wastewater treament system or treating prior to your biological waste water treatment system. Optimizing the performance of treatment chemicals and equipment can dramatically minimize overall costs and maximize your return on investment, and we can provide creative solutions to help meet your most stringent water quality requirements.

The aeration basin is the heart of your biological treatment system, and maintaining aeration basin health is critical to meeting plant discharge limits and optimizing sludge dewatering operations. Nalco has a full line of analytical services and bioaugmentation products designed to meet your most demanding needs and improve your bottom line results.

Solids dewatering is the second-highest cost area in a waste water treatment plant, second only to electrical utility costs. Effectively optimizing the performance of dewatering equipment and chemicals can dramatically minimize the total cost of operation and maximize your return on investment. In addition, as processors endeavor to meet stringent regulatory requirements, solids handling and disposal continues to be one of the most important areas requiring creative, sustainable-technology solutions.

We also understand that effective secondary waste water treatment is critical to your plant operations, whether you are discharging to a municipal wastewater treament system or to a river. We can provide you with creative treatment chemicals and equipment solutions, helping you meet your most stringent water quality requirements and maximize your return on investment.

Our programs typically focus on the following and can help you with:

  • Improving overall plant economics
  • Optimizing equipment efficiency
  • Addressing compliance issues
  • Increasing operator capabilities and effectiveness
